Plant Essences

Plant essences give the plants their characteristic odours and flavours. Found in various parts of the plant body, including the roots, flowers, stem, and leaves, they are obtained via compression, steam distillation or extraction depending on which part of the plant they occur. Examples of plant essences include lavender, lime and sandalwood.

Plant oils

Plant oils come from vegetables, nuts and seeds. Unlike plant essences, plant oils are less concentrated and have more subtle aromas. Sodashi uses cold pressed plant oils that do not contain any additives or preservatives. Examples include apricot, macadamia and avocado.

Plant Extracts

Sodashi uses liquid plant extracts which are obtained by using alcohol to extract the properties from the plant. Examples include gotu kola, bilberry and gingko bilboa plant extracts.

Infused Oils

Infused oils are obtained by a process called maceration or infusion. The plant material is soaked in a carrier vegetable oil for a period of time then strained out. The resulting liquid contains the essential oils that were present in the plant as well as non-aromatic, larger, fat-soluble and beneficial molecules. Examples include arnica oil, centella oil and carrot oil.

Hydrosols

Hydrosols are the distillation waters co-produced during the steam distillation of plant material for aroma therapeutic purposes. Examples include rose, myrtle and sandalwood hydrosols.

Clays

Sodashi uses a variety of unrefined and naturally sun dried clays and earth minerals from Australia and France.

Preservatives

Sodashi uses natural preservatives Vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract and soy phospholipids, giving the products a two-year shelf life.
